Alliance Community Hospital, a non-profit hospital that serves the residences of Alliance, Ohio and its surrounding areas with highly advanced medical services, has announced it will now offer the FDA approved ReShape® Procedure.
Approved for adult patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 40, the ReShape Procedure is part of a comprehensive, non-surgical program that includes a dual intragastric balloon with a higher filling capacity than any single gastric balloon to help patients feel full and less hungry. In addition to the weight loss balloon, the program offers a year of support from a doctor, registered nurse, and dietician with personalized coaching and customized nutrition and exercise plans.
ReShape also provides a new option for adults with mild to moderate obesity who haven’t been able to lose weight with diet and exercise alone and do not want or qualify for bariatric surgery. Unlike weight loss surgeries, ReShape is not a permanent implant and does not permanently reroute a patient’s digestive system. Insertion of the gastric balloon is completed in about 20 minutes with no hospital stay required.
“I have seen many patients struggle with obesity during my career,” says Dr. Jonathan Hlivko, head of the Alliance Gastroenterology Program at Alliance Community Hospital. “It is important for me to find an alternative to surgery that will provide my patients the opportunity to manage their weight without all the risks associated with gastric bypass, lap-bands and other invasive surgical procedures. This alterative will provide many benefits and deliver hope to patients who did not have options previously. ReShape provides this group of ‘in-between’ patients with access to a non-surgical, reversible option to encourage new habits and lasting results.”
Data shows that ReShape weight loss balloon patients have lost up to 81 pounds in just six months.1 In clinical trials, patients lost more than twice the weight with the ReShape intragastric balloon than diet and exercise alone.2 Most ReShape gastric balloon patients keep the weight off or continue to lose weight, even after the gastric balloon was removed.2
